These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Detour mobile application and website (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Detour ("Detour", "we", "us") operates a platform that connects international travellers on a Mumbai layover ("Travellers") with local college-student guides ("Guides", also called "Buddies") who offer short, in-person city experiences. Detour is a marketplace and technology provider. We are not a travel agency, tour operator, or the provider of the experiences themselves — those are arranged directly between the Traveller and the Guide.
The Service lets Travellers discover Guides and itineraries, agree terms in-app, pay a deposit and balance, meet the Guide in Mumbai, and rate the experience afterwards. Guides create profiles and itineraries, accept or decline requests, run the experience, and receive payouts less applicable fees and taxes.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. During early access, some features (including certain payment and payout functions) may be limited or operate in a fee-free mode.
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. Guides must be genuine students and provide accurate information about their studies and identity. You agree to provide accurate, current information and to keep it up to date.
When a Traveller and Guide agree an experience in-app, a booking is created that moves through a defined lifecycle (inquiry → agreement → deposit → balance → trip → settlement). Both sides pay a refundable deposit to confirm commitment; the Traveller pays the remaining balance before the trip. Amounts are shown in Indian Rupees (₹) and are calculated by the Service from the agreed itinerary — you should not rely on any figure quoted outside the app.
Payments are processed by our third-party payment provider (Razorpay). We do not store full card details. By paying, you also agree to the payment provider's terms.
Detour holds trip funds and releases them to the Guide after the experience, less platform fees and applicable taxes. The Guide — not Detour — is responsible for delivering the experience.
Cancellation outcomes depend on who cancels and how close to the trip it happens, and are calculated and disclosed to you in-app before you confirm a cancellation:
Refunds are returned to the original payment method where possible and may take several business days to appear.
You agree to behave lawfully and respectfully, to follow local laws in Mumbai, and not to harass, endanger, defraud, or discriminate against anyone. Meeting a stranger carries inherent risk; use good judgement, stay in public places, and share your plans.
SOS is not an emergency service. The in-app SOS notifies our operations team and shares your location so we can assist, but it is not a substitute for the emergency services. In a life-threatening emergency in India, call 112 immediately.
We provide tools to report and block other users. We may investigate reports and suspend or remove accounts that violate these Terms.
You retain ownership of content you submit (profile text, photos, messages, reviews) but grant Detour a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host and display it to operate the Service. Reviews must be honest and based on a real experience. Do not post unlawful, infringing, or misleading content.
Detour charges a platform fee on transactions, disclosed in-app. Guides are responsible for their own taxes on earnings; where required by Indian law we may withhold tax at source (e.g. TDS under Section 194C) and issue the corresponding records. Prices and fees may change with notice.
You may delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account in the app. Deletion revokes your sign-in and removes or de-identifies personal information that is no longer required. Limited transaction, dispute, safety, fraud-prevention, tax, and accounting records may be retained where law or a legitimate claim requires it. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms or create risk for others.
The Service is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, Detour disclaims warranties of any kind and is not liable for the acts or omissions of Travellers or Guides, for the quality or safety of any experience, or for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Subject to applicable law, the courts of Mumbai, Maharashtra have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service.
